Meet Dr. Michael Young Meet Dr. Joseph Samona

Dr. Michael Young

Dr. Michael Young came to Lenox from Saginaw, and couldn’t be happier with his new community and dental family! He believes strongly in the power of quality dentistry to improve patients’ lives, and can’t wait to get to know you and your smile better.

Dr. Young has an extensive educational background that started at Michigan State University. After completing undergrad, he went on to receive his dental degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.

Not one to ever stop learning, Dr. Young continued to sharpen his skills at the Kois Center for Advanced Dental Learning. He found the experience to be invaluable, and still serves as a mentor at the center. Dr. Young has also undergone a mini-residency for dental implants from Nobel Biocare, presented at several notable courses and webinars for 3D dentistry, and earned certification for InstaRisa 3D facial scanners. As you can see, 3D dentistry is a particular passion of his!

Dr. Young is also an active member of several prestigious organizations, including the Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College of Dentists, and American Dental Association. He also serves as the president of Digital Dentistry Solutions and the Key Opinion Leader for the Board of Education for Planmeca!

Outside of the office, you can find Dr. Young spending quality time with his friends, family, and dogs – or running in a marathon for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Dr. Young also enjoys music, and plays several different instruments, including the guitar, bass, and drums. If you want to get him talking, just bring up the Michigan State University Spartans!

Dr. Joseph Samona

Dr. Joseph Samona loves his job, and a particular passion of his is patient education. He believes that teaching patients more about their oral health empowers them to take good care of their smiles outside of the office. And as a lifelong learner, he also knows this from personal experience! If you ever have questions about your teeth, Dr. Samona would be more than happy to help.

While working towards his dental degree at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Dr. Samona researched oral health education for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. He earned an award for his efforts, and in his free time, you can find Dr. Samona volunteering to help individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing! After graduating at the top of his class, Dr. Samona went on to complete an Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at UT Health San Antonio and receive training for a wide range of specialty treatments.

Fun fact: as a child, Dr. Samona noticed that some people tried to hide their teeth from view because they felt embarrassed about their appearance. He wanted to help these individuals feel more confident in their smiles. From the very beginning, Dr. Samona has been focused on supporting and empowering his patients. We couldn’t be happier to have him on the team!

Why Are You Looking for a Dentist Near Richmond?

Why are you looking for a dentist near Richmond? Whether you are eager to get back on track with your routine cleanings and checkups, or you want to enhance your smile with cosmetic treatment, we’re here to help. To learn more about the services we offer, click on the images below. If you have any questions or want to schedule an appointment, don’t hesitate to give us a call!

I Need a Checkup & Cleaning

It’s recommended that most people see their dentist every six months for routine cleanings and checkups. Even if you are the most diligent brusher and flosser in the world, there are still going to be areas that you miss. A professional cleaning leaves your teeth squeaky clean! During your checkups, we will be on the lookout for oral health issues so they can be treated right away. This includes tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and other abnormalities.

I Want to Enhance My Smile

Our priority is to keep your smile both strong and healthy, but the appearance of your smile matters too. If you aren’t happy with the current appearance of your teeth, this is a valid reason to seek dental treatment. We offer numerous cosmetic dental services, like teeth whitening, veneers, dental bonding, gum recontouring, and more. Schedule a consultation with us so we can discuss the goals you have for your smile.

I Have a Cavity or Broken Tooth

Despite your best efforts, tooth decay and other dental injuries can pop up. We offer multiple restorative services to help build up and repair your smile, returning it to optimal health. Just remember that when it comes to cavities, cracks, and broken teeth, the sooner you have it addressed, the better! By restoring your tooth with a filling or dental crown now, you can avoid an extraction later on.

I am Missing 1 or More Teeth

Are you missing one or more teeth? We offer various tooth replacement options to replace whether from one to an entire arch of missing teeth. To find out which tooth replacement option is right for you, schedule a consultation with us. We will examine your smile, discuss your dental history, and go over your option. Together, we will create a plan to meet your unique needs!

I Am Nervous/Scared of the Dentist

Many people put off much needed dental work because they suffer from dental anxiety. We offer nitrous oxide sedation to make visits more comfortable and stress-free for adults and children alike! If you are anxious about the idea of coming to the dentist, let us know. We will do everything we can to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

I Am in Pain & Need Help

Dental emergencies can happen out of nowhere or as a result of an unresolved oral health issue that has worsened. If you have a painful toothache, lost restoration, knocked-out tooth, or another problem, we’d be happy to lend you a hand. We always do our best to see you on the same day that your emergency occurs, so give us a call!

Why Are You Looking for a Dentist Near Richmond?

All too often, patients don’t get the dental care they need because they assume they can’t afford it. Our dental team at Richmond is proud to welcome several financial solutions to make everything from routine checkups to emergency dentistry more affordable. We’d be happy to provide you with further details at your visit, but don’t hesitate to click on the images below if you want to learn more!

We Welcome Dental Insurance

If you have dental insurance, we have good news: we can help you utilize your coverage! In fact, we’re in-network with several popular providers, including Aetna, Cigna, Delta Dental Premier, Guardian, and Principal. Once we have your membership information, we can review your benefits, provide you with an estimate of your out-of-pocket expenses, and answer any questions you have. Then, if you’re ready to proceed, we can submit the paperwork. That way, utilizing your available coverage is easy!

Flexible Financing Avaliable

Don’t have dental insurance? Don’t worry – that’s not the only way to make preventive, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry fit into your budget! CareCredit is a trusted third-party financier that offers convenient and flexible payment plans. All you need to do is select which one works with your monthly budget. Then, you can begin paying for your treatment in smaller, more manageable installments instead of paying for the entire thing in one lump sum.

Dental Membership Plan

Although there are several perks that come with dental insurance, there are also rules and restrictions, including waiting periods, annual maximums, and yearly deductibles. Our dental membership plan offers many similar perks, including two dental checkups a year, without the red tape. In fact, you’ll be able to enjoy all of the benefits immediately! If you are interested in learning more about this financial solution, including how to sign up, get in touch with a friendly member of our team!

Frequently Asked Questions

Sometimes, it’s simply easier and less stressful to find answers to your questions online instead of over-the-phone. We get it! If you have questions about our various services but can’t contact us right this minute, check out the FAQ list below.

What Should You Do if Your Dentures Break?

If your dentures break, please don’t try to fix them yourself! Many DIY solutions cause more harm than good. Instead, give us a call and try to describe the damage in as much detail as possible. Your dentist will be able to tell you whether it’s safe to continue wearing your dentures or if doing so could cut your soft oral tissue. Either way, we’ll help you schedule a prompt appointment for repairs or a replacement. We know you rely on your dentures near Richmond, and will do what we can to fix them as soon as possible!

How Much Does it Cost to Get a Tooth Pulled Without Insurance?

The cost of a tooth extraction near Richmond can vary greatly. This is because every patient’s needs are a little different, and certain factors (like the location and number of teeth that need to be removed) will impact expenses. Pinning down an exact out-of-pocket cost before performing a thorough oral exam can be difficult and simply wouldn’t be very accurate.

With all of that said, the average cost of a tooth extraction without dental insurance is around $150 to $800. If you’re worried about being able to afford your tooth extraction, please let us know. We accept CareCredit financing plans and also offer an in-house membership for uninsured patients, so you could still save money on dental care at our office!

Am I Too Young to Get Dentures?

There’s no such thing as being “too young” for dentures near Richmond! Even though tooth loss is far more common amongst older adults, younger patients can still lose pearly whites for various reasons. And since tooth loss can cause complications like jawbone shrinkage and dental drift, it’s best to restore your smile as soon as possible, regardless of how young or old you are!

Why Do You Treat Sleep Apnea?

It might seem strange, but a dental professional actually does have the sort of knowledge and skills you would want for treating sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is often an oral problem; overrelaxed tissue near the mouth or throat can block your airway when you lie down, which prompts your brain to “wake up” and try to get more oxygen.

Since they’re experts on oral anatomy, a qualified sleep dentist can design an oral appliance that will shift your jaw forward when you wear it. This helps open up your airway so you can sleep soundly throughout the night!
